A reconstructed, fully operational replica of a 1711 windmill that ground corn for two centuries on the York River near Yorktown, VIrginia. It stands in the Yorktown, Virginia, portion of the Colonial National Historical Park, which tells the story of the American Revolution and the end of the colonial period. The siege and battle of Yorktown were the decisive victory of the rebellious colonies, leading to the British government’s capitulation. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2019.
