Mullens, WV - Wyoming Hotel
Once a showplace in the coal-mining town of Mullens, West Virginia, the Wyoming Hotel, designed by Alexander Mahood and built in 1918 by town banker and mine baron J.C. Sullivan and completely rebuilt soon afterward following a disastrous fire. Like many coal towns and their fine hotels, the six-story Wyoming steadily lost customers in the late 1900s and closed some time after a devastating downtown flood in 2001. Photo by Carol Highsmith.
