Dwelling along "Mormon Row" in the Jackson Hole (as locals call a valley) beneath the Teton Range in Grand Teton National Park, in the northwest corner of Wyoming. Mormon homesteaders began to arrive in the 1890s from Idaho, creating a community called "Gros Ventre" -- big belly in French -- with a total of 27 homesteads. The name was applied to a regional Indian tribe -- misapplied, really, because of a misreading of sign language. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2015.
