Jackson, WY - Million Dollar Cowboy Bar Sign

Neon sign of the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The bar dates to the early 20th Century, when Joe Ruby erected Ruby's Cafe and Beer Garden on the site. In 1937, Ben Goe purchased the bar and changed the name to the Cowboy Bar, for which he received the first liquor license in the state of Wyoming following the repeal of Prohibition four years earlier. (In the United States, Prohibition was a 13-year period in which the manufacturing, storage, bottling, transportation and sale of alcohol -- including alcoholic beverages -- was officially prohibited, though the law was widely flouted.
