Bannack, MT - Cemetery

Located on a hill just north of Bannack and east of the gallows is the old cemetery. Utilized from 1862 to about 1880, it holds a number of graves, but most are no longer marked. Given more than a century of harsh winters and crude markers to begin with, Mother Nature has reclaimed all but a few stone markers. Bannack's most "famous" citizen, Sheriff Henry Plummer, was not buried here, but rather was interred in Hangman's Gulch about 100 yards beyond the gallows, without benefit of a marker.
