Blackfoot Indians, 1913

Songs were a regular part of Blackfoot culture and ceremonies. Two types of instruments were often used; a drum made from a section of a tree trunk with animal skin stretched over the ends; a tambourine style instrument with hide stretched over a broad wooden hoop. The Blackfoot also sometimes used rattles made from various materials and whistles. Photo in 1913. Vintage image restored by Kathy Weiser-Alexander.
