A King Kong-esque ape climbs a faux tower at the Hollywood Wax Museum in Pigeon Forge, a former sedate farming community turned quirky entertainment mecca in eastern Tennessee. The long strip of sometimes-wacky venues, which did not achieve city status until 2021, borrows heavily from another tourist town — the country-music and "hillbilly"-themed attractions of Branson in southern Missouri.
