Located in south central Louisiana, Avery Island is a salt dome best known as the source of Tabasco sauce. It is about three miles inland from Vermilion Bay, which opens onto the Gulf of Mexico. Visitors can tour the Tobasco sauce factory, visit its country Tobasco store, and see Jungle Gardens, which features dozens of tropical plants and wildlife, including alligators.
