Tommy's Deck Bar was a chic Art Deco watering hole in its heydays. Opening in 1937, it hosted an interesting array of characters, including popular boxers and ball players, and other celebrities such as Dean Martin and Jimmy Durante. Over the years, the neighborhood and the bar declined and by the 1980s, the old bar had grown seedy and was frequented mostly by prostitutes and drug dealers. Police openly called it "the most dangerous bar in town." In September 1986, the Miami Herald reported that Beach cops had answered 168 emergency calls at Tommy's that year alone. The bar closed its doors for the last time at dawn on Sunday, Sept. 21, 1986. It was located at 627 Fifth St. on Miami Beach,
