Even the beach patrol headquarters building on the strand in the trendy South Beach section of Miami Beach,
Florida, takes on some of the resort’s “Tropical Deco” flavor. South Beach has become a locus of pastel-colored Art Deco architecture, flamboyant night spots and restaurants frequented by celebrities, and palm-lined gated resorts. The building, designed by Robert Taylor and opened in 1934, is said to mimic the lines of 1920s-era oceanliners. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2020.
