Courtyard at the 1926 Gothic Revival-style Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in the stylish, decidedly upscale barrier island community of Palm Beach, Florida. When its first settlers arrived in the mid-1800s, the remote, sandswept area was known as “Lake Worth,” named for a U.S. Army general. But word of the location’s beauty soon spread. The city is said to have received its name from the wreck of a ship carrying palm coconuts.
