Miami, FL - Rooster Walk

In 2002, vibrant new street art turned some of Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street), the vibrant artery of the historic Little Havana neighborhood of Miami, Florida, into what locals call the “Rooster Walk.” For years, the district was the nexus of the Cuban refugee community and the best part of Greater Miami, where one could find genuine Cuban food, music, cigars, art, and attire. But as many in the community prospered and moved to fancier parts of town, the neighborhood took on a pan-Hispanic (especially Central American) character. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2020.
