Cavern at the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach, designed by architect Kenneth Treister and completed in 1990 in South
Florida. Funded by a small group of Holocaust survivors living in the area, the memorial remembers the six million European Jews who perished at the hands of the Nazis. As the memorial’s Web site notes, “Several disapproved, arguing that Miami Beach was a place for “sun and fun” and the Memorial would be too somber for the vacation destination.” But that sentiment did not prevail.
