Scottsbluff, NE - Old Mill

A small, weathered, and closed mill on the edge of Scottsbluff, the principal city in the southwest corner of Nebraska. It, and the surrounding county, are named for Scotts Bluff, a sandstone formation southwest of town that was an important landmark for westward-bound emigrants who had just crossed hundreds of miles of open plains and low sandhills on the Oregon Trail. [NOTE: Scottsbluff the city is one word. The county and formation are two names with no apostrophe in "Scotts."] Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2022.
