18The 1923 BMT (Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit) subway station -- now part of the New York City subway system -- in the Coney Island neighborhood in New York City's Brooklyn borough. By the mid-19th century, what had been the colonial town of Gravesend became a seaside resort, and by the late 19th century, several amusement parks were also built at the location.
