The refurbished street-side sign for the 1954-vintage Lariat Lodge (a lariat is a rope lasso) on historic U.S. Route 66 in Gallup, a small city near the Arizona border in far-western New Mexico. Gallup got a mention in the lyrics of the hit “Get Your Kicks on Route 66” song about the Chicago-to-Santa Monica “Mother Road”: “You’ll see Amarillo/ Gallup, New Mexico/ Flagstaff, Arizona/ Don’t forget Wynonna” and so forth.
