View of Sandia Pueblo, between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico. This is the home of one of 19 federally recognized Native American pueblos, or communities, in the Southwest U.S. state. The Sandia people are members of the pre-Columbian Tiwa language group that once dominated the Albuquerque area. Once the largest pueblo in the area with more than 3,000 people, the community currently has just under 500 members. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2021.
