Prescott, AZ - Apache Lodge Indian
Carved and painted Indian figure outside the landmark Apache Lodge in the Central Arizona community of Prescott, which was founded in 1864 as the capital of what was then Arizona Territory. Founded in 1947, the Apache was Prescott's first motel as distinguished from previous motor courts catering to the traveling party. Motels housed guests in a single building (and later, often, even more than one large one), while motor courts offered travelers separate quarters, often complete with attached garages.
