Muskogee, OK - Roxy Theater

The Roxy Theater in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Originated in the Muscogee (Creek) Nation from which the city took its (slightly altered) name, Muskogee became a prominent railroad town and then nationally famous following the release in 1969 of Merle Haggard’s smash county-music hit, “Okie from Muskogee.” Opened in 1948 as a movie theater, the Roxy later closed and remained so for more than 30 years before reopening in 2001 as a multi-purpose performance venue.
