The Five Civilized Tribes Museum (also called the old Union Agency Building) in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The term “civilized,” originally meant to be somewhat complimentary and now (in the 21st Century) perceived as ethnocentrically judgmental, referred to five Eastern U.S. tribes, many of whose members were forcibly removed from their lands and marched via what’s been called the “Trail of Tears” half a continent away to Oklahoma in the nineteenth century.
