Scene during one of several battle re-enactments, held each American Independence Day Weekend, of the decisive 1863 Battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania, which turned the tide of the American Civil War against the outmanned, rebellious Confederacy for good. The encounter depicted here reimagines a skirmish between Union and Confederate cavalry forces, mounted and dismounted, at nearby Hunterstown. The former were led by George Armstrong Custer, later to become a legend in death at “Custer’s Last Stand” when the daring commander led his troops to slaughter against Plains Indians at the Battle of Little Bighorn.
