The Inn & Spa at Loretto, a luxury hotel photographed on Christmas Eve in Santa Fe, the capital of New Mexico. The roof-edge illuminated lights are “luminaria” — small lanterns of real or facsimile bags holding torches, candles, or small lightbulbs. They are a traditional year-end holiday decoration in New Mexico, especially on Christmas Eve. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2020.
