The Santo Niño Prayer Portal, a separate building from the nearby Santo Niño de Atocha children's chapel, in Chimayó, a small town and cluster of colorful plazas or placitas, each with its own name, toward the southern end of what's called the "High Road" — a winding route through the Sangre de Cristo mountains to and from the New Mexico capital city of Santa Fe and the art and shopping mecca of Taos. Chimayó is the destination of an annual pilgrimage of tens of thousands of devout Catholics each Holy Week. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2021.
