The state capitol in Pierre (pronounced locally and statewide as "Peer"), the capital city of South Dakota (and, at c.-14,000 population as of 2021, the second-least-populated U.S. state capital ahead of only Montpelier, Vermont). Completed in 1910 under the direction of the same architectural firm as that which designed the capitol in neighboring Montana, the South Dakota building bears several similarities to that capitol.
