Topeka, KS - Old Security Benefit Hospital Tower Building - 2
A landmark in the western Topeka skyline, this building was constructed in 1930 to house the Securities Benefit Association Hospital. Independence Hall inspired the design of the building in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and represents a collaboration between a Chicago firm, Schmidt, Garden, and Martin and Topeka architect Walter E. Glover. In 1961, the Menninger Foundation purchased the building as a treatment and research facility. Menninger relocated in 2003, and the Tower building and the rest of the campus became available for sale. In the summer of 2006, vandals broke into the vacant building, damaging the windows and interior. The building was listed on Kansas' Most Endangered list in 2022.
