Amarillo, TX - Airforce Base Water Towers - 2

Approximately six miles east of Amarillo, Texas is the old Amarillo Air Force Base. Originally called Amarillo Army Air Field, it was activated in April, 1942 with the first troops arriving the same month. It was one of the largest installations in the Western Technical Training Command, established for training air crew and ground mechanics to service B-17 Flying Fortress aircraft during World War II.
