Rolla. MO - Totem Pole Trading Post

Signs at the Totem Pole Trading Post, a tourist attraction along a surviving section of the old, two-lane U.S. Route 66 in Rolla, a small city in south-central Missouri. Route 66, affectionately known as the country's "Mother Road" was a popular route heading west, from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California, from the mid-1920s into the 1950s. Many similar establishments in the area closed in 2020 or 2021 due to the impact of a nationwide (and worldwide) COVID-19 pandemic that made potential customers wary of visiting unknown places. This place was still in operation, however. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2021.
