Marfa, TX - Texas Theatre
Upper facade of the Texas Theatre in Marfa, Texas. This was a secondary movie theater (to the larger Palace), frequented primarily by the town's Mexican-American residents. It had a moment of fame, however, in early 1950s, when the epic movie "Giant," starring James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor, and Rock Hudson was filmed nearby. Director George Stevens screened the raw "rushes" of the film in the theater, which has been closed for decades. Photo by Carol Highsmith.
