Hueco Tanks State Historic Area, TX
Wagon wheel and remnants of an old wall from the 20th-Century period when what is now Hueco Tanks State Historic Area near El Paso in El Paso County, Texas, was a privately owned ranch. The "tanks" are geological depressions that catch rainwater, attracting animals and human settlement in the otherwise-dry high-desert surroundings. More than 200 ancient pictographs -- in this case the "mask paintings" of peoples over several millenia -- can be found in the park, but many are closed to the public (except by ranger tour) due to desecration of some drawings with graffiti.
